Experience
Website Development
I started creating web pages over 15 years ago. My first website was a fan page for my favorite professional ice hockey team. In high school I created my first website for an actual business when my mom started Tax Savvy. I have since created websites for a number of other small businesses and student organizations as well as optimizing websites for search engines.
Database Management
I first learned Microsoft Access in high school and have continued to refine my skills. Most recently, I created a database to manage HIV Alliance's volunteers. The data is designed to track volunteer's contact information, trainings completed, number of hours volunteered, and special skills. From the database, you can run reports to give all the volunteers completing a volunteer anniversary with the agency in any given month, the number of hours donated to any given program in a period of time, the number of hours donated by volunteers fluent in a specific language, and many other useful reports.
I started learning QuickBooks while working for my mom at Tax Savvy. I minored in Business and had taken the accounting classes to understand the basics of financial documents. I learned QuickBooks really fast as it functions similar to any other database. Currently, I have set-up the QuickBooks account for an organization, developed an inventory tracking system, and reconciled receipts in QuickBooks with bank accounts.
Organization Formation
In graduate school, I became very interested in the nonprofit section. My master's thesis was a needs assessment for volunteer leadership training at local nonprofit organizations. I also took classes in nonprofit management where I studied board development, grant writing, and fundraising.
I first started filling out forms for nonprofit organizations when my brother started up 1865 Continued, a nonprofit dedicated to educating others about modern day slavery. I have since formed other nonprofit organizations to various levels from just forming at a state level to obtaining both federal and state tax exempt status.
Personally
I am currently living in Eugene, OR while my girlfriend of 4 years is attending law school at the University of Oregon. We have a dog named Tommy and a whole tank full of fish.
When I am not working for my business, I work at HIV Alliance as the Volunteer Coordinator. In an average month, we have over 1100 volunteer hours donated to our agency, which is equivalent to over 6 additional full time employees. I recruit, train, and coordinate the schedules of all of those volunteers. I also am responsible for all the data management for the volunteer program.
Also, I am actively involved in the community. I am a board member of ELLA, a local organization that teaches swing dancing to the community and puts a weekly dance. In addition to being a board member, I am also on the teaching and DJing rotation for the club. Another hobby of mine is Table Tennis. I play with the Lane County Table Tennis Club. I try to play at least twice a week, but I sometimes miss a day or even a whole week. I am not very good at table tennis, but I enjoy trying.
